so i've gone and entered myself into the deathknight.info design-a-rune contest. so far i have 42% (609) of the votes, but feel free to vote for me here if you think my design deserves to win. i'm #18.

i added a new desktop today. i've been playing around with some 3d text, so it's my first design. just in time for spring.
forever and a day, exactly. i've been really busy lately, with work, charity and holidays. my husband and i raised $3,168 for child's play, which is pretty incredible. i got a new wacom intuos3 tablet - special edition - so i've been playing around with that as well. anyway, hopefully i'll be able to post more regularly now that we're back on track.
today i came across the shop of ben schlitter. i found some prints i adore:
what i wasn't expecting to find, however, was such a cute website. i love everything about it, and i'm quite fond of the sketchbook. he has a lot of great art on the site, so it's definitely deserving of a look.
by the time i enrolled at the art institute of dallas in 2001 i already had five years of experience with photoshop/illustrator/html/etc. so the classes weren't really that challenging. the one thing i liked, however, was the critiques and the time restraints on completing a design. it's that extra push that i'm missing right now. there are sites out there, like core 77 and worth1000 which allow designers to get together and come up with challenges and battle each other for the fun of it (or for points). i'm also quite fond of illustration friday.
i think i might try to contribute to these more in the future.
kreepsville industries has recruited some talented artists to design these creepy cereal boxes. my favorite is rice creepies by wayne harris. there will be a total of 73 artists pitching in to produce a 'coffin table' book.
this isn't so much a post about web design - but design in general.
i'm a recent watcher of dexter. it's one of my new favorite shows (my other is heroes - and that's all i watch LOL). anyway.. the introduction to the show is just amazing. if you haven't seen it, you should definitely take a look. view here
where are you? according to a recent study done by a list apart, female designers make up less than 20% of the web design industry.
the study includes information about geographics, salary, bias and more. read it here
completion of this site is long overdue.
i'm not one for big introductions, but i'll give you some background. first of all, i understand the concept of capitalization. i just prefer to type in lowercase. i got my first check for a website design when i was 16. i'm self taught, though i did attend the art institute of dallas when i was in my early 20s. i'm now 27, working for a software solutions company in plano, tx.
this is my blog. for the moment, comments are disabled. i have yet to decide whether or not i want to accept them. i'll be featuring random design stuff here (links to cool sites i find, design tips, etc.) so i'll probably feature an rss feed soon.
